A fun and educational cookie baking activity for children ages 5-7, focusing on using timers to bake cookies perfectly.

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Make sure an adult helps with this step!
In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Use a wooden spoon or mixer to cream them together until smooth.
Add in the eggs one at a time and mix well after each addition. Then add the vanilla extract and mix until combined.
In a separate bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mix to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
Fold in the chocolate chips with a spatula until evenly distributed.
Scoop tablespoon-sized amounts of dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving space between each cookie.
Set a timer for 10 minutes to bake the cookies. Remember to check the cookies when the timer goes off!
Once the timer goes off, check if the cookies are lightly golden around the edges. If they are, they are ready! If not, set the timer for another 1-2 minutes and check again.
Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
