A quick and easy tomato soup recipe that kids can make while learning stovetop basics.

Open the cans of tomato soup carefully using a can opener. Always keep your fingers away from the sharp edge of the can.
Pour the contents of the cans into a medium saucepan.
Add 1 cup of water to the saucepan and stir with a spoon until mixed well.

Place the saucepan on the stove and turn the burner to medium heat. This is where we practice temperature control. Watch the soup closely as it heats up!
Once the soup starts to bubble gently, it's time to add seasoning. Sprinkle in 1/4 teaspoon of salt, 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of dried basil. Stir the soup well to combine the flavors.
Let the soup simmer on medium-low heat for 5 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan. This helps us learn to keep an eye on our food while it cooks!
Turn off the heat and carefully ladle the soup into bowls. Be careful, the soup will be hot!
